Contrast- Fela! and Broadway

Fela has opened on Broadway to mixed reviews. Some have said that the play lacks a story line and character development. While others marvel its transition from an off Broadway play to an opening Broadway debut with a star studded cast. Nonetheless, both sides seem to agree that Fela is extremely entertaining and a much needed splash of color on the Broadway scene. I've never been interested in writing a theater review, but I do want to at least shed light on something out there that you may overlook. I mean, its a better option than going to see Phantom of the Opera or Mary Poppins. Lets be honest.

Collision- Cruz + Broken Embraces

Anyone who knows me knows that I have never been a fan of Penelope's look. Yet, everyone has always told me how "classic" she looked. But her mousy features were always so far from attractive that I dismissed any notion of Cruz as a beauty. But something about this David Edelstein film, Broken Embraces, just fits. Everything from the scenery to the way it was shot to Cruz herself is beyond stunning. I mean, this is like one of those fantasies you just want to live in. If you haven't seen the trailer yet just think of Gwen Stefani's "Cool" video. And if you can't get that reference... i mean.... well just google it. Anyways, I am absolutely in love with this imaging she has going on in the film. I admit, she looks amazing. Maybe I'm late? I doubt it. Seriously. But I have always been the one to give credit where credit is due. And the film, the set design, the hair/ make up, the stylist and the actress are just perfect! I can't tell you what the story is about, but on the strength of the imaging alone...this film is a must see.

Model Daul Kim Found Dead

Twenty year old model, Daul Kim was found dead in her apartment earlier this morning. Her agency confirms her death but the cause of death has yet to be announced. There is huge speculation that the Korean born model committed suicide. Upon reading this story I was beyond shocked. Not only because shes so young, but more because this is becoming a trend. Each year you hear about 'models' who commit suicide and you have to wonder why. Personally, if you come into the industry at the age of 20 (or younger) and your always subjected to being what other people want you to be, it may cause a little confusion. Not to mention on your time away from the castings and agency meetings are spent in clubs which are known to be a place of pretend. One can become a mannequin because most people care less about what you say and how you feel and only about what you look like. Its a very dangerous thing to not take your career and your life into your own hands. You can just be a fixture in other people's (40+ yr old agents'...) dreams. I am not saying this to say that it was the case with Daul Kim. May she rest in peace. I am more so being honest about the industry with hopes on inspiring girls to take their dreams into the own hands and make it happen for themselves. The quicker it comes the quicker it goes.

Flashback Iconic- Grace Jones

As a walking canvas Grace Jones commands your attention. She is personally one of my favorites because she embodies art and expresses herself so lavishly yet tastefully. The androgynous beauty was was known as a singer, actress, model and Andy Warhol's muse. Shes a goddess to the gays and a icon for fashionistas across the board. You will NEVER EVER come across a dull image of her. Thats why it was so hard to choose just one...

Pixels- Precious

Precious has been on everyone's list as a must see. I've seen it... liked it.. and definitely would recommend it. More compelling than the film is this teaser poster. I love how its not the standard profile views of the two leading actors with the look of drama/fear/lust in their eyes with bold movie scribble on everything. Its actually pretty cool. The actual poster poster looks like watercolors and also gets a thumbs up from me. Sometimes behind the scenes peopledon't get any kudos... but I, personally, am appreciative.

Collision- Tim Burton + MoMa

Tim Burton has an exhibit starting Nov. 22nd at the Moma that MosaMuse is planning on attending. It features works from back when Burton was in college all the way until now. Its actually some pretty cool stuff and a snapshot into his mind and on his sets with photography, drawings and paintings. I suggest you all take a trip down to see this as well. The exhibit will be up until April. Just a heads up on things to do other than your normal routine...

Fresh Face- Kelly Moreira

She's just a Myspace chick whose submission to Elite Model Look France via Myspace has landed her on the YSL, Dries Van Noten, Lanvin and Kenzo runways. This French born beauty has an amazing complexion and is known in the industry for her lips and legs. She has only been signed for a few months but there is major buzz around this year. I really think she has potential to be a contrasting appearance to the very cookie cutter looks of Chanel and A. Sosa. I really want them to find depth in her appearance and give her some more edgy work instead of simply making her the same image that we've seen over, and over, and over before. Best of luck Kelly.

Collision- H&M + Jimmy Choo

This collaboration should be great! This Saturday, head to H&M (but pls not the one I'm planning on) to pick up a pair of Jimmy Choos at H&M prices. Now look, no one in my opinion has had a better H&M collection than Stella McCartney (I know a lot of you will argue against that).. but she started the skinny jean trend with zippers on the ankles for only $49.99. But I think Jimmy Choo can give her a run for her money. H&M is only selling his collection in 200 stores around the country. I guarantee I will come back with a bag and a pair (or 2) of shoes for under $150 all together.
Jimmy Choo is doing great with their cobranding this year. They also paired with Hunter. I am in love with Hunter's Jimmy Choo faux croc rainboots. I asked my bf for a pair earlier this yr and I'm still waiting (frown). No doubt I'll head to H&M myself!

Pixels- Bad Romance

"GA GA OOH LALA"
I love this girl! Please check out her new video "Bad Romance" and look out for the scene where shes wearing the bear rug as a coat. I LIVE! She stole my heart dragging that bear head haha. FINALLY... someone worth watching.
But let me be honest, I wasn't into the costume thing for a while. The whole panties with the shades and thigh high boots. I was skeptical because (to be honest) I didnt think she was hot enough to pull it off. It was too Rihanna (meaning, it looked as if she was trying too hard). But now that I got to see this video and the whole vision come together seamlessly... I'm all for this GaGa chick. Shes hot. Shes fun. Shes needed. I want front row tickets! She's a must see show.. an I'll follow this girls' career. After she locks down the music (which she can do with her eyes closed at this pt) where should she go next?
....Cover of Vogue PLEASE Anna (so it can stop looking so damn stuffy)!... Joe Zee...why isn't she on your cover?

Contrast- The White House is The New Black

Anna Wintour's Prada shoes have stepped into the White House. Teamed with Forest Whitaker (huge move for him, yay), Yo Yo Ma, Sarah Jessica Parker, Edward Norton and 19 others, Wintour's role is to inform the President on expanding the role of arts in society. Many other countries have a national figure in this position, and its great that America is finally coming around. It seems like America is years behind everyone lately, right? Anyways, Michelle Obama is the honorary chair of the Committee on the Arts and Humanity. From what I've read about Anna (who btw is one of my idols) thinks that fashion and the global economy are closely related and she really pushes for the US government to reform some of the international trade laws. I'll keep you posted on this committee because I think its going to be a huge component in our society as we mature, and possibly what I retire as the head of it... If Anna can, I can! BTW, why isn't Oprah up on that list?

Flashback Iconic- Naomi Campbell: The Angel In Red

No other muse is comparable. MosaMuse would like to pay homage to the legendary Naomi Campbell for creating a strong path for women of color. The British beauty started at the age of 8 when she was casted in Bob Marley's "Is this love?" video. She was the first black model to appear on the cover of British Vogue and soon after became the face of Nars and Ralph Lauren. Shes walked many catwalks, was the face of many magazines and dated many Hollywood bachelors (including Robert Di Nero and Mike Tyson) She published a book, Swan, detailing a model's life. Shes also known for creating Design House of Naomi Campbell, producing shower gels and perfumes. She appeared in numerous movies and even came out as a recording artist. I love her because she did EVERYTHING. Shes an entrepreneur, cover girl, fashion icon, actress, playboy bunny, singer and bitch. What else could a girl want? Thanks Naomi!

Fresh Face- Hind Sahli

Moroccan beauty Hind Sahli signed with DNA in NY earlier this year. Since signing she has walked for BCBG, Phillip Lim, Herve Leger, Lacoste, Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, Vera Wang and Max Azria. The 5 ft 10 inch beauty is known for her distinct brows and long legs. I personally think that her 'middle eastern' appearance (although she is Moroccan) will propel her career during this politically charged time. But all away around, I'm completely sold. I wish her success. What are you thoughts?

Pink- Another Angel Gets Her Wings

Emanueala de Paula (pic above) and Chanel Iman have both been added to the new Victorias Secret roster!! This of course is a huge deal to any models career. These ladies can now ask for the big $ in any shoot/ campaign across the board. The show tapes in NY on the 16th. I think the only reason I'll tune in is to see if sweet Chanel can pull the over the top sex appeal needed. (i do hope she does) But other than that, I've been watching the same glittery catwalk for about 10 yrs now an nothing seems to amaze me anymore. Heres what im wondering: VS's obsession with Heidi Klum will just make you wonder why exactly shes been named the face of the brand. I like her... but I dont get it. The hottest girl in the crew, Adriana Lima wont be there so is there really a pt? We all know they will reveal "the most expensive bra in the world" which will make they $56 push up look like a breeze. At least we can cross our fingers and hope Seal wont come on the stage and sing with his wife... whose idea was that? Anyways, best of luck to Chanel and Emanueala (and Selita). Will you be watching this yr?

Flashback Iconic- John Galliano

Its all about who you know and John Galliano knew the right people. The famous John Galliano would not be the renowned designer he is today if it wasn't for the positioning of Vogue editor, Anna Wintour. In 1993 Anna Wintour persuaded a Porteguese Socialite to allow Galliano to use his mansion for a fashion show. He was subsequently appointed chief designer of Givenchy. Three years later, Alexander McQeen took over the line and Galliano was moved to Dior where he positioned himself to be the person he is today. Here is his most recent work for his Spring'10 RTW line. Thoughts?
