Flashback Iconic- Eunice Johnson

A pioneer in black fashion passed away earlier this week, and MosaMuse can only pay homage by shedding light one Eunice Johnson's amazing journey with hope you all will continue to carry the torch. Eunice Johnson created the Johnson Publishing Company which was the publishing company of Ebony and Jet magazines and the Fashion Fair make up brand. The highlight of her career was the creation of the Ebony Fashion Fair, created to inspire and encourage Black youth. The traveling runway and fashion trade show began in 1961 and who an outlet for black fashion designers, models and admirers. Her story is an inspiration. Her life was a mission. And because of her, a lot of black families found their first media outlet. I remember taking my mom's ebony just to flip to the 'beauty of the week' just so I could turn to my mother and tell her why I am prettier than that girl and should be in the magazine, at the age of five. Thank you Ms. Johnson for being an innovator and encourager to a girl like me.

  1. Thank you for celebrating the brown-skinned innovators that have paved the way for ethnic representation in the fashion and beauty world. They are ofen ignored and/or under represented. This blog opens up an entire world of fashion that most of us have never seen. I can't wait for the magazine to come out. It will be the Vogue Magazine for the ethnic community of young women craving for their favorite brown-skinned models, fashion designers, stylists, makeup artists and celebrities to be featured across mainstream media. A magazine that is completely overdue in our generation.

I can't wait to read more of your posts. Keep 'em coming.

    Love, health and wellness,

    Sherrell
