Pick Up- ARISE Magazine

Pick up this month's ARISE magazine featuring Naomi, Liya and Alek. They look amazing! ARISE hit the ground running when it first launched and its only been picking up steam. I absolutely love ARISE. This issue also speaks with Tyson Beckford and Thandie Newton. All of you guys outside of NY, be sure to go the extra step to check out this publication... two thumbs up from me. Most importantly, they really do a good job with supporting up and coming African designers (who seem to be my favorite lately because of their general love of color and mixing prints).

Now that its getting cold, I figured I would give you some sweater options for the fall/winter. One trend I'm really loving is the grandpa sweaters with the elbow-patches, and you can find a ton of them at Zara. But because everyone will be wearing them, here are some other cute styles to consider. Sweaters and cardigans are always great with a little layering, chunky boots, and a nice dark denim. Go for the casual-sexy look this winter.

Project Runway Recap

So, lets just say that this season has been a bore. Remeber when Project Runway was... actually good? Yea, like back when it was on Bravo. Well now the show officially sucks, and its not even good at judging. Last night something completely horrific happened... Michael Kors, Nina Garcia, Hiedi Klum and Jessica Simpson chose to award Gretchen as the winner of Project Runway over the talent Mondo. nnooo! Anyway, just as watching Project Runway was a waste of my time... so was writing this post. But, congrats Mondo on probably going further than if he had won.

Lui Wen's Ad For Estee Lauder

As I previously reported, Estee Lauder features it's first ad with a Asian model Lui Wen. She looks great, and its Estee Lauder's best ad since Liya Kedebe (years ago). It has a youthful flare to it, and I'm excited to see an Asian model on a major campaign. Lui looks great.

Red Carpet Style- Rosario Dawson

I love that I get to see Rosario Dawson back on the red carpet. She is wearing Stella McCartney, and she said in her red carpet interviews that she uses red carpet events for excuses for her and her bffs to play dress up. And thats what its all about, right? This color looks great on her, her smile is flawless, and I love everything Stella McCartney. I want someone to give her a really great role so we can see even more of her!

Independent Lady

Naomi Campbell's new ad for Dennis Basso furs is out. This shoot had a lot of controversy surrounding it because snaps of Naomi with thinning edges flooded the internet. Thinning edges or not, Naomi is hands down the best model in the world period(.) And this ad is beautiful. You gotta love all the independent ladies who stroll in furs worth 50k, shirtless, and pump their own gas.

Flashback Iconic- Joan Collins

So yea I may have been too young for Dynasty, but in my mind I'm still the star of that show. Wouldn't you like everything to be over the top fabulous? I know I do. But one woman who had it all on Dynasty was Joan Collins. Joan Collins was born in England in 1933. She is known as an actress, but a stand out on her resume is that she posed for Playboy at 49 years old... and she married for her 5th time at 79. Seems like age is just a number for the icon with a love for flamboyance. To be honest, I don't know much about her, but I loved scrolling through the pictures. :)

What to buy?

So, you guys overwhelmed me with your love for the men's cologne from YSL (a couple posts down). So I decided to share my favorite staple scent for women. Ladies I know a lot of you make your purchase by how cute the bottle is, so I'm sure you have overlooked Calvin Klein's Euphoria. But it me know you how amazing it is. Euphoria is a great fall/winter scent because it has heavier notes and its super sweet. Ok so here's what this scent makes you feel like. You know the Victoria Secret look with massive extensions and big loose curls? Ok so know how those girls move in slow motion on the commercials... as if sexy=slow. Well just image your walking down the hall thats dimly lit and your slightly turning your head from left to right (in slowmo of course) and each time a curl brushes your face you just get this super sweet, sexy scent just brush pass you. Ok, well thats what its like. Euphoria is a clean and sexy scent, and sometimes you forget you're wearing it. But when a burst of the scent hits you....its... well, euphoric. Try this one out. And I want you ladies to fill my inbox like the guys did. And if not... I'll just start a blog for men. Surprisingly... they listen to blogs.

Fashionable Dating Advice

So ever since I suggested cologne for men, I've been getting a lot of emails from guys saying 'thanks'. Now that I know the guys are reading my fashion blog (love it), I decided to continue to help you out. Here are some dating rules I would love to share because...wow... you guys have NO CLUE, and I haven't been wowed for a minute now. Ladies, you need to read these rules too (and stick to them) because I feel a lot of my problems come from the fact that you are allowing these guys to move along with zero skills.

Ready? Here we go...
1) Learn to dial the keys on your phone and CALL.
Whats up with the text conversations? It shows that you lack wit, confidence and conversation when you have text conversations that span the length of days.
So what can you do to get out of your tech rut? Try to write down topics throughout the week that would be OF INTEREST to the girl you like. This may seem a bit weird, but it works and it cuts down all awkwardness. If one topic doesn't hit off a great conversation, move on to the next. Women love to talk, but most women would like a more dominant man with leadership skills so learn to lead a conversation (in person or on the phone). So ladies, if he fails to call stop responding to the text. What will that lead to....sexting?
2) Ask For The Date
Don't just throw things in the air that you would like to do and expect her to jump on board. Formally ask her on a date. If she says no, move on.
3) Have a plan and know what you want.
All dates should have an overall plan. That doesn't mean that you don't allow for spontaneity, it just means that you came with a guide and a goal to the date. Most dates have two different settings ('dinner and a movie', 'drinks and dancing') so try to come up to two main events to your date. Playing it safe is 'dinner and a movie'.
So what can you do to plan a great date? First, be sure to call her and get a vibe for what she likes. (And not by checking hr facebook) The date should be one part her one part you. This way you get to show her what you like and enjoy something she prefers. So if she likes to be active and adventurous something like indoor rock climbing. The key is to share your plan with her before the date begins. That way she can figure out her outfit...seriously.
And pick things that you really like to do and you would continue to do with her. Don't try to show that you like different foods and experiences when you don't. Be true to yourself so that you're not wasting time in pretend land.
4) Be a gentleman.
If you don't put her on a pedestal, she will not be willing to get down with you. Come to the door, bring flowers, open all doors, walk on the proper side of the street, give her eye contact, close the date by setting up your follow-up, and walk her to the door at the end of the date. Sounds silly to list these things right?...wrong! These are instant deal breakers. I'm not telling you to pull out every chair and place her napkin on her lap... I'm just telling you guys to do the basics. They are not hard.
5) Be Yourself and Know What You Want
Most people get over their fear of rejection by pretending to be someone else. So if that character fails, they think they are still safe. But what happens when the girl falls for the character and you're stuck playing pretend for a year? Look, you save tons of time by just being yourself and not worrying about whether or not she likes you. If you pick a part of the date she will like and a part you like, you both will ultimately have a great time.
If you want to settle down, don't waste a 33 year old woman's time who wants marriage. If you want a serious relationship, date someone who knows what they want.
6) Get Rid of Rules
If we had a good time why would you wait 3 days to call? Who says we can only go out once a week on a Saturday night? It seems so stupid and you look like a loser doing it. So really. Stop.

Fellas- no matter if your looking to just have a good time, settle down or lay down... follow these rules. But up front about what your looking for out of the date on your phone call on step one.
Ladies- if they do not meet your standards, ditch them. I typically have a two date rule. I allow for the first date jitters and I expect them. I usually will let them know what I didn't like (because I don't want to continually go through the same unpleasant experiences). So when I go out a second time I'm looking for a more relaxed time and I'm also looking to see if they can take direction. So on the second date I pretty much know if they line up with what I want. This way you are not wasting your time or their money. And ladies, stick to having expectations. Because when you don't... they seem to come to me confused that I have set standards.

Hope this is helpful for us all.

Just A Fav

Agyness Deyn has been one of my favorite models this year (and last year). Her real name is Laura Hollins and she is known for her hair and her 'downtown' style. The Jean Paul Gaultier Go To Model

Russian model Eugenia Mandzhieva is the perfect go-to model for Jean Paul Gaultier, and who blames him? She is perfect for his look. Eugenia has also walked for McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Y-3 and Viktor & Rolf. She began her career as a Trump Model and her first editorial was the cover of Chinese Vogue's Beauty Issue. She is huge overseas but hasn't gotten much play in America. I would love to see her look in Elle.

Yummy YSL- For The Guys

So I was flipping through Esquire magazine, which I NEVER do because.. well its garbage. I mean, from its stereotyping of black politicians when talking about Rangel to the fact that Minka Kelly (who?) being slated as the 'Sexiest Woman Alive', the entire magazine is crap. So when I picked up the magazine all I could think is... what is that smell?? The majority of ads for men in the mag are cologne so I did my sniff test and OMG I found the BEST cologne for men. Ladies, you will love this. It's YSL's La Nuit De L'Homme... its the best. The scent alone takes you to another level. Its a clean, leveled scent with a touch of sweetness. One sniff of the scent allows you to just imagine this guy: dark, tall and muscular in a clean and crisp white cotton t-shirt that cascades perfectly over his abs. Dark blue denim jeans, clean kicks, nice bold watch, and an extremely delicate chain linked loosely around his right wrist. Nice cut and cute smile. Yes, seriously, its that good. Breeze by a Sephora or wherever you go for perfume for a quick sniff. Yummy.

Fashion Faux Pa- Raquel Zimmerman and Chloe

All is right and pretty with this Chloe ad for its new perfume featuring Raquel Zimmerman, right? WRONG. Somehow a YSL belt has been used in the ad. But the fact that this is the most talked about news in fashion just makes you wonder what these people do all day. As the recession continues, fashion becomes more and more irrelevant. MosaMuse is on its way to becoming a full website with relevant articles and fun for fashion and entertainment lovers.

For Colored Girls, The Movie

Tyler Perry's new movie, For Colored Girls, is hitting theaters November 5th 2010. Janet Jackson, Kimberly Elise, Thandie Newton, and Kerry Washington are part of the dynamic cast. I'm excited to see Ntozake Shange's choreopoem be translated into film. In high school I played Lady in Yellow, and I'm excited to see which color I most relate to 6 years later. Lets pause for the fact that its been 6 years. But back to the point, I think this is such a break through for women of color to have a film they can directly relate on the big screen. This year there have been many steps of inclusion beginning with Princess and The Frog. One thing that I would like to say is that I hope that this film can be appreciated and not picked apart. Often times women of color have an issue accepting steps in the positive direction. There's never a problem when watching a Katherine Heigl 'comedy', but a song on Princess and The Frog can be ripped apart. This movie is something to... wait for it.... enjoy. Try it out. And most importantly, be sure to support important steps that are being made.

Worldview- Los 33

Hope can be fashionable, right? Well an amazing story of hope and faith is currently unfolding. The 33 Chilean miners are one by one seeing the light of day after months trapped underground. Right now 1/3 of the miners have been lifted to safety, and its likely that all will be rescued and reunited with their families. Miner number 21 will be greeted by both his wife and his mistress... I wonder if he really wants to come out? But juicy gossip/drama aside, everyone around the world are watching this amazing story of faith, hope and love. This is a great day. Be blessed!
