Fresh Face- Lily Taylor

California's own Lily Taylor is a solid up and comer. She signed with IMG six years ago and was able to walk the Spring shows and was placed in a DKYN ad campaign. But she never seemed to pick up steam. She was let go and immediately picked up by VNY. Since she has walked Tory Burch, Baby Phat, Rachel Comey, Tracy Reese and Charlotte Ronson. She was then featured in Italian Vogue (pictured above) and modeled for Vera Wang. It looks like things are turning around and she may start making waves. Good luck Lily.

Gloss- Glamour Magazine

Zoe Saldana graces the cover of Glamour Magazine. She looks beautiful wearing a sequined pink dress and smile. She's one of my favorite actresses and I am interested in seeing what she does after all of her sci fi films. I'm looking forward to something a bit more deep and rugged. But I'm loving what she's doing now and where she's headed.

Hue- Go Green

Save money and help out the environment. Imagine using a vintage bike as an accessory to your vintage sun dress and straw floppy hat. Cute, right? Its a good way to keep your money in your pocket and keep harmful chemicals out the environment. I just have one favor- please keep the bikes cute. (haha) Vintage does not particularly mean the one you dug out from the back of the garage. You can even splurge on a really stylish one, and many designers are now putting their names on a few. Try it out and let me know how it goes... wear a helmet!

Spotlight- Tracy Reese

The beautiful Tracy Reese is a MosaMuse favorite and one of the first black designers to successfully create her own line. Her first attempt at her own line was not able to sustain financially, but her second attempt soared beyond belief! She is a Detroit native and a designer who knows how to design for real women. Thank you Tracy for all your accomplishments!

Pink- Summer Fun

Guess what... you don't have to walk around looking like a slut to feel sexy. (Well, someone had to say it!) Feeling sexy depends on what your wearing underneath your clothes. Try finding some sexy our of the ordinary lingerie for the summer. Focus on lace and cut outs and most importantly, keep it your little secret! Try to go outside your typical route and check out La Petite Coquette, Town Shop, Azaleas and Agent Provocateur (all NYC) for the perfect fit.

New Digs- Barbara Bui

Designer Barbari Bui is known for highly detailed, structured pieces. She designs clothing, handbags and shoes. She is one of my favorite designers, and I particularly love her shoes. Above is a picture of one of my favorite handbags that I think really represent the label. She's a MosaMuse favorite and probably now yours too...

Rising- Austria Alcantara

I like this new up and coming Dominican model! MosaMuse stumbled on photos of Austria Alcantara, and have come to believe that we have a promising model. Shes is known for her hair and legs, but I think that they should push her distinguished brows as her signature feature. So far she has walked for Brian Reyes, Ports 1961, DKNY, Marchesa, Ferretti and Cynthia Rowley. She has also appeared in an Elle shoot. In only minutes until someone gets her onto a national campaign. Looking through her port she can go from vintage to glam. Best of luck Austria and keep up up to date.

Newcomer- Nathan Jenden

Nathan Jenden is a burst of fresh color and style. His inspiration stems from bold 80's fashion, and he manages to pull it perfectly in this futuristic fashion period. His designs pop off the runway and give life to (what seemed to becoming) a very stale fashion season. I am very into following his career and seeing his next line of creations. Nathan Jenden's client list includes the beautiful Thandie Newton. Best of luck Nathan, and ladies keep him on your radar. By the way, his new eyewear with Swarovski is like candy!

Hidden- Designer LaQuan Smith

Designer LaQuan Smith is on the rise. His designs have been seen on Gaga and Rihanna among many others. Most notably, Andre Leon Talley noted Smith's collection as his fave of the season. That basically means Vogue is a step around the corner. But more importantly, hes being mentioned on MosaMuse today (haha). Being around LaQuan, you can tell that he fully embraces the art of fashion and will be a major player in it. His designs are where your attention needs to be.

Pink- Pout

My new favorite color for this season is coral. Play with this color with turquiose accessories and bright whites. I personally love the contrast between deep dark liner an mascara with bright and cheerful gloss. This will be a great look to start of the spring season!

The Biz- Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy Hilfiger's brand was sold for 3 million dollars. How can you forget that logo? To me it was an 'All-American' brand that got its exposure from exploited black youth. This of course, is a personal opinion... shared by many. To his credit, Hilfiger has maintained brand consistency throughout the years and has become a wardrobe staple to many. He continues to keep his fashion shows pretty diverse, this year his clothes were featured on Black and Asian models. I personally was never allowed to wear his clothes, but I know many people who would have killed for Tommy 'gear'. His brand just sold for 3 billion, how much is in your bank account? Start owning!

MosaMuse Salutes- TLC

MosaMuse want to take time out to salute one of the best groups to date, TLC. Their Crazy.Sexy.Cool movement appealed to a bit of everyone. Their CrazySexyCool album is one you can pop in any day, any year, and it still feels like the very first time. They were iconic and instrumental in broadening the appeal of our music beyond all barriers. From condom eyewear to water creations, TLC was ever evolving and always appealing. Thank you ladies for your work and may Left Eye rest in peace.

Spotlight- Chanel

Chanel fashion shows are always known for being extreme. This year, they decided to create a fake glacier and have everyone walk around looking like beasts. It was kind of cool. Some looks were wearable and others were simply editorial, but over it looked like a great show. Here's a still of one of the more wearable pieces of the bunch.

Flashback Iconic- Alvin Ailey

A diamond was formed by coal. All of the struggles of his past led to the creation of Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre in 1958. His early life was plagued with racists attacks and fear. But when Alvin Ailey found dance, he found an instrument to break barriers. His dance company is known as the "cultural ambassador to the world", and revolutionized the roles of African-Americans in dance. He is a pioneer and legend and his legacy lives on beyond his years. He shows that the obstacles you overcome in your early years can create a masterpiece later on.

I may actually watch the muppets movie because Ms. Piggy is gonna have a little 'gaga' running through her blood. As NY Mag first reported, the new Muppet movie is coming out and Ms. Piggy will be fashioned after Gaga. Its very cute considering GaGa's most memorable (and attention-getting) moment was get dressed like Kermit. Lets see if they put her in McQueen!

Edit- Electric Shock

Less than 16% of the models who walked in NY fashion week were non white. Are you surprised? Probably not. But it is important to note. Non white models (and non white people as a whole) are under represented in the fashion industry. This is very unfortunate for models and designers, but it is also unfortunate for the young, non white, girls who love fashion. These women don't get to see anyone like them in these magazines which most likely means that they question not only their beauty but their relevance in society. Where do they fit in? I created this blog, which will soon transform into a complete site, for women of all races who like fashion. My mission is to help young women develop their passion and their place in this world. This site will expand beyond fashion, beyond just the U.S, and beyond my imagination.
